Cruise the stark, hauntingly beautiful Musandam fjords in a traditional Omani dhow, stopping along the way to swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear waters.
After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a leisurely drive 1 hour drive up the coast while admiring sweeping views of the Gulf of Oman. Upon arriving in Dibba, you will embark a traditional Omani dhow, a type of wooden vessel that originated in the 8th century. Modern dhows are primarily used for fishing and sightseeing.
As you cruise farther up the Musandam Peninsula, you will pass a chain of mountains that rises more than a mile high. The white crust that you will see on the rock's surface is from salt. You may also spot natural caves in the mountains; some of them right at sea level.
Other coastal highlights include the stone ruins of the ancient village of Haffa and the golden beaches at Ziggy. Although the arid terrain appears stark and uninhabitable in most places, there are plenty of inviting coves as you cruise the Musandam fjords.
On board, you'll be treated to Arabic tea or coffee. In time, the captain will choose a suitable spot to anchor, allowing you to take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters. You will also have the opportunity to snorkel. Marine life is abundant, and you may see eagle rays, king fish and brightly colored fusiliers. Dolphins also flourish here and are commonly spotted frolicking in the fjords.
Back aboard, you’ll be served a traditional Arabian-style lunch and then enjoy some additional time for swimming, snorkeling or sunbathing before heading back to Dibba and then on to the ship.
