Immerse yourself in Cretan history by touring a 16th-century monastery in the countryside and neighboring Rethymno, a town of Venetian origin.
Depart from the pier and drive east onto a fertile plain where the acclaimed Arkadi Monastery was built in 1587. Constructed of honey-colored stone in a Renaissance style, the monastery has played a significant role in Cretan history. It has long been a pilgrimage site and a symbol of resistance after being attacked by Turkish troops in 1866. Many of the items from that conflict, including weapons and military banners, are proudly displayed in the monastery’s small museum. There are also a number of religious objects, the highlight being a 17th-century vestment embroidered in gold that depicts Christ and the 12 disciplines.
After visiting the monastery, you will drive to nearby Rethymno, a coastal city with an abundance of restored buildings from the 16th century. The harbor is Venetian, the streets narrow and charming, and the history rich.
While exploring, you might see Rimondi Fountain in Platanos square, several beautiful mosques, and the fragrant municipal gardens. The Fortezza castle dominates the landscape as it has since 1590, when it was built to protect Rethymno from pirates and Turks. Following your guided walking tour, you’ll have some free time to further explore on your own before returning to the pier.
Note: This tour includes approximately 2-hours of moderate walking/standing plus any additional walking at the guests’ discretion during free time. There are some uneven surfaces and steps to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned only to participate to the extent of their personal stamina and ability and may make arrangements with the guide to not participate in some of the walking portions of the tour. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. less

Take the ferry from one gorgeous village to another in Cinque Terre, all of which lies within Cinque Terre National Park, an area that UNESCO has deemed a World Heritage site.
After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a meandering drive toward Manarola, one of five villages in Cinque Terre, whose name means “five lands.” Upon arriving, you will pause at a terrace that presents a spectacular view of the sea and the village, a tumble of brightly colored houses clinging to a terraced slope. Points of interest include a 13th-century castle and the Oratory of St. Mary Assumption, which holds a 15th-century triptych.

Visit three meticulously excavated cities whose ruins reveal their splendor and prosperity in ancient times.
After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a picturesque drive to the excavated ruins of Miletus, an ancient city that the Greeks founded near the Menderes River. Although the city was abandoned in the 6th century when its harbors silted up, Miletus once prospered, as you will discover by wandering through its remains.
Among the highlights are a Greco-Roman theater that held 25,000 spectators and the Baths of Faustina, a complex with water fountains shaped like the river god Meander. Despite the relevance of the historical sites, it is hard to imagine that Miletus was once on a peninsula with four harbors, as it is now on a plain that lies five miles inland.
Not far away, you will find the ruins of Didyma, whose key landmark is the Temple of Apollo. One of the largest temples in the ancient world, it was a magnificent monument whose sacred oracle rivaled that of the more famed one in Delphi.
More fabulous ruins await your exploration in the World Heritage site Ephesus, where you will behold one excavated building after another. They include the theater where St. Paul preached, the Church of the Virgin Mary and the Library of Celsus, a monument constructed as a mausoleum with a separate library for scrolls and codexes.
Back in Kusadasi, you might spend free time shopping or stay in town longer for an enlightening carpet lecture.
Note: This tour includes approximately 3 hours of walking. It is not available to guests who utilize a wheelchair. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable, flat walking shoes are suggested. less

Fly to a national park on the border of Argentina and Brazil and behold the staggering power and beauty of Iguazú Falls by walking along trails and cat walks that give you extraordinary views of this amazing natural wonder.
After departing from the pier, you will transfer to the airport in Buenos Aires and fly directly to Iguazu, which lies inland near Iguazú National Park. The falls were discovered in 1541 by Alvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and established in 1984 as a Natural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Situated in Iguazú National Park, the falls are shared by both Brazil and Argentina.
The massive cascade is made up of 275 separate waterfalls that thunder down sheer cliffs in a majestic display of nature’s power. The falls are nearly twice as high and three times as wide as Niagara Falls, a fact not lost on Eleanor Roosevelt who reportedly said, “Poor Niagara,” when she beheld roaring Iguazu.
You will observe this staggeringly beautiful, natural phenomenon by walking a path either above or below the falls. Both trails are extraordinary in their own way.
Then, following a buffet lunch at a restaurant within the park, you will ride an eco-train to Devil’s Throat, which at more than 250 feet high is the single tallest waterfall within Iguazú. Once you are at the Devil’s Throat Station, you will have to walk approximately a half mile on a flat catwalk built over the Upper Iguazu River. Once you get to the end of the catwalk, you will find yourself at a strategic lookout point that rests on the side of the spectacular Devil’s Throat. It’s truly a glorious sight that you will not soon forget. The surrounding rainforest is equally impressive, as it is home to about 2,000 plant species and 400 bird species, including toucans, parrots and peregrine falcons.
Following your Iguazu Falls adventure, you will fly back to Buenos Aires and transfer to your NCL designated hotel.
Note: This tour includes approximately 5 hours of moderate to strenuous walking/standing that includes negotiating wooden cat walks, natural paths and cobblestone surfaces. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with walking difficulties. Participants should be in good physical condition. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; and flat, comfortable walking shoes with a non-slip sole are recommended. The particular path taken may vary and the tour sequence and timing are dependent upon flight schedules. This tour must be purchased no later than 30 days prior to the operating date. Cancellations made within 30 days or less are subject to a 100% cancellation penalty. Programs falling under the minimum number of required participants are subject to cancellation.
This tour is with HOTEL DROP OFF. Guests who depart from Buenos Aires on the day of the tour cannot participate as they will not make it on time to connect with any international fight.

Discover the charms of Granada, the architecturally stunning capital of the Andalusia region, by exploring a magnificent palace, the Royal Chapel and the city’s oldest quarter.
After departing from the pier, you will settle in for scenic drive inland to Granada, a city likely named for the Spanish word for pomegranate, a fruit so abundant it is depicted on Granada’s coat of arms. Or Granada may have derived from its Moorish name, as the city was the Moors’ last stronghold before falling to Spain’s Catholic monarchs in 1492.
Granada features a wealth of extraordinary architecture such as your first stop, the Carlos V Palace within the Alhambra complex. Construction on the palace began in the early 16th century, following a Renaissance ground plan with a circular courtyard within a square building—the only one of its kind in Spain. Amazingly, a monarch has never lived in the palace, nor did it even have a roof until 1957.
Walking a bit farther, you will soon arrive in the labyrinthine streets of the Albayzin quarter (down part of the quarter), the city’s oldest section. UNESCO has deemed it a World Heritage site for its harmonious blend of Moorish and Andalusian architecture.
Nearby, you will find the glorious Royal Chapel, the final resting place of Spanish monarchs such as Queen Isabella and Kind Ferdinand. Be sure to see the chapel’s mausoleum, spectacular altarpieces and ornate grilles before enjoying free time and perhaps lunch on your own in the surrounding historical area.
Afterwards, you will drive back to Malaga.
Note: Tour does not include tickets inside the Alhambra-General Life area. Due to traffic conditions, the tour duration may vary from 8-9 hours. This tour includes approximately 2½ hours of walking, some of it over cobblestone surfaces plus any additional walking at the guests' discretion during free time. The sights on this tour are not wheelchair accessible and therefore, it is not available to wheelchair guests and those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Discover highlights of beguiling Mossel Bay and explore a museum complex dedicated to the first European to land in South Africa. Enjoy an enlightening drive around Mossel Bay, a beach-blessed city in the shadow of the Outeniqua Mountains that was named by a Dutch explorer in 1601, when he found a huge collection of mussel shells in a nearby cave. As you travel along the town’s charming streets, you’ll learn that South Africa’s first post office was established here centuries ago after sailors began leaving letters in the cleft of a milkwood tree so that other sailors could deliver them on their journeys.
See that revered, 500-year-old tree, now a National Monument, standing near the Bartolomeu Dias Museum Complex, which is named for a Portuguese navigator who was the first European to set foot in South Africa in his search for a spice route to the Far East. During your time at the complex, perhaps you’ll visit the absorbing Shell Museum or the Maritime Museum, where a replica of Dias’ ship is on exhibit, along with early maps and navigation instruments.
