Join in the 150th anniversary celebration of the historic Charlottetown Conference. When politicians got together in Charlottetown in 1864 to discuss the idea of creating Canada as an independent country, there was a lot of drinking and eating that helped forge relationships among the representatives. Among the Fathers of Confederation who debated the idea, was George Coles who in addition to being a politician, he was one of Prince Edward Island's most successful brewers and distillers.

In honor of the this special anniversary, historic character George Coles will take you on a tour of his favorite pubs to try local made rum and beers from a craft brewery and a special pouring of Guinness. George will regale you with stories from his days as the island's most successful brewer and distiller. He'll share his insights into the debates that took place during the conference and why he opposed Prince Edward Island joining the confederation.

He'll take you to the Gahan House, Charlottetown's oldest brew pub to quench your thirst with several of the beers produced right on site. Head over to the Olde Dublin Pub for their specialty, traditional pouring of Guinness. You’ll finish your tour at the Merchantman Pub where you'll taste their exclusive rum. On the way back to your ship, stop in front of the old Customs House and learn how during prohibition they used to pour confiscated liquor down the manhole.
