Discover the striking contrasts of Colombo’s colonial gems, alongside modern high-rises, while touring several landmarks of Sri Lanka’s largest city. Colombo's passion for the contemporary is evident in the many high-rises towering above the Fort, an area named because of a 19th century British fortress here. The Fort is also known for the Old Parliament, built in the Neo-Baroque style during the British reign. In fact, the British influence is highly evident throughout the city, many of the streets are named for former British governors.
Your route will take you through the affluent Cinnamon Gardens residential district and past the University of Colombo and prestigious Royal College, before arriving at the esteemed National Museum. The Museum's collection of antiques and art objects beautifully expresses the island's cultural side.
You’ll enjoy a refreshment break at the luxurious Galle Face Hotel, another landmark from the British colonial period. A short drive brings you to the Gangaramaya Temple, the largest temple in Colombo, and also a Buddhist learning center.
