Hop aboard a fishing boat and try your luck catching some of the most prized game fish in the Caribbean, such as tuna, wahoo and sailfish.
After departing from the pier, you will soon find yourself in the prime fishing waters along the southernmost tip of the Mesoamerican Reef, the world’s second largest barrier reef. Everything you need for sport fishing will be provided on the boat, allowing you to better concentrate on reeling them in.
These waters are teeming with tuna, wahoo, mahi mahi, grouper and king mackerel, and there is no telling what you may catch. The captain and crew will offer fishing tips, provide the best bait for each species and net whatever you catch.
Wahoo can often be found around drop-offs and are easy to identify by their long slender bodies marked with zebra-like stripes. Brightly colored mahi mahi, also known as dorado, typically make long runs and leap out of the water during the battle to land them.
The king mackerel is another favorite fish to catch, as they are tremendous fighters. Like wahoo, they are aggressive hard-hitters known for their speedy runs. Sailfish and marlin are also plentiful in these waters, but if caught they must be released.
On the return to the pier, you may pause briefly to snorkel in the crystal-clear waters off Roatan. The reef attracts all sorts of smaller, non-game fish, which will give you an entirely different perspective of the local marine life.
