    OVERVIEW

    Engage in Alaska’s state sport of dog mushing on special equipment that is modified for the snow-free summer and interact with the huskies that effortlessly pull the sled.     Sea Cycle Ocean Adventure

A safety briefing will be conducted on the pier and then two guests share a sea cycle, both sides equipped with pedals to propel the pontoon style watercraft.     Wildlife Safari & Beach Bonfire - Round Trip

    OVERVIEW

    Cruise into the sheltered waters of the Tongass Narrows looking for whales, porpoise and other Alaskan wildlife, and then pull up to a forested island to feast around a bonfire. There is no telling what you may see as the captain navigates the boat into remote coves and around forested islands. Humpback whales are often spotted and the sight is mesmerizing. Two other types of cetaceans – orcas and Dall’s porpoise – are also commonly seen. Orcas tend to travel in large groups. Dall’s porpoise can easily be identified by their distinct rooster-tail splash when traveling quickly just below the water’s surface. This wildlife safari includes a stop on secluded Annette Island for some delicious Alaskan Dogs, seasonal jams, chips, s’mores. Leave room for a dessert of s’mores around a roaring fire. Chances are, there will be time for an enlightening exploration of the island’s old-growth forest.

    Tatoosh Islands Sea Kayak

    Enjoy a 10-minute motorcoach ride to the takeoff site. After gearing up with layers, take a fast boat ride to the remote and protected Tatoosh Islands. Have your camera handy for the magnificent scenery and wildlife sighting opportunities on the fast and fun boat ride. Ancient cedars, spruce and western hemlock trees add to the peace and tranquility of the setting as you glide along the wild rocky shoreline. Bald eagles peer down from overhead, while seals often pop up to take a peek. You might spot a deer or mink along the shore or colorful seaweed, kelp, starfish, jellyfish, and other inhabitants of the intertidal area. Other life you might see are humpback whales, sea lions and orca or maybe an eagle catching a salmon from the water! Upon arrival guides will greet you and present a thorough but quick orientation. Get into your double kayak and launch onto the water. Practice your strokes as you approach the sheltered islands, circumnavigate the Tatoosh islands. After the kayak enjoy a fresh baked cookie. No paddling experience is necessary but expect to paddle 3 miles. The tour is operated for a limited number of guests under special use permit with the US Forest Service.

    Note: Participants must be at least 8 years of age, weigh no more than 260 lbs. and be no more than 6’6” tall. Guests will be provided with a dry bag at the site. Please dress in layers and avoid cotton and down if possible. You’ll be provided with good lightweight splash-wear - both pants and jackets with hoods are provided. Wear flexible shoes and bring a hat and sunglasses. The fast boat lands on the beach and you'll be launched from the beach so there is no need for boots.

    Glacier Dogsledding Demo By Helicopter

    Fly high over the Alaskan wilderness in a helicopter to Denver Glacier, where you will watch sled dogs demonstrate their prodigious power and energy. The glacier lies due east near the Alaska-Canada border, an extraordinarily scenic landscape of majestic mountains and dense forests. The helicopter will land on a remote snow field where you will be greeted by an experienced musher and their team of excited dogs. Your musher – will describe how the dogs are cared for and trained to maximize their strength and stamina for contests such as the grueling 1,000-mile Iditarod. Once the team of dogs are harnessed to the sled, off they will go, dashing across the glacier with the snow-capped mountains as a backdrop. It is a spectacle to behold. Afterwards, while interacting with some of the puppies at the camp, you will learn about the history of mushing and the bond between the mushers and their dogs. Cherish this once in a lifetime opportunity as you cuddle with the puppies and take pictures together against the dazzling landscape of the glacier before loading back into the helicopters for your return flight to Skagway.

    Note: Dog sledding is not included. This is a demonstration tour. You will learn about the training and bonding process between musher and their dogs and have an opportunity to interact with the dogs as you learn how to prepare a sled dog team for a race, from harnessing the eager pups to understanding their unique personalities and training techniques. This is a weather dependent tour up to the sole discretion of the tour operator. Guests are required to enter the aircraft with little to no assistance. For safety reasons, they must be able to walk a minimum of about 200 ft and navigate two 18” steps into the aircraft on their own. The glacier surface is snowy, uneven, and slick, and total walking distance may exceed one quarter mile. Guests who weigh 250 lbs. or more, fully clothed on the day of the tour, will pay an additional weight surcharge. Seating in the helicopter is determined by weight and balance and is at the sole discretion of the tour operator. Carry-on bags are not allowed and there is limited secure storage at the heliport. IPads, iPad minis, tablets, drones, bottles or liquids of any kind, and Go-Pro Sticks or other extendable items are not permitted on tour. Aircraft fly no higher than 7,000 feet. Oxygen for personal use is allowed but must be in the form of an FAA approved portable oxygen concentrator that can be secured to the user's body. Guests should wear comfortable shoes and dress in warm layers. Hat, gloves, sunglasses, waterproof outer layer, and cameras are recommended. Liability waiver is required to be signed in the presence of the tour operator. Kindly note that Federal Aviation administration regulations require that all children 24 months and older on any aircraft must occupy their own seat which must be paid for. If you are taking this shore excursion with an infant aged between 24 and 36 months this payment will be processed onboard your ship. Parental Consent forms: A parental consent form is required for all passengers ages 12 to 17 who will be participating on any tour unaccompanied by a parent or legal guardian.     Follow an old logging road through the wilds of Tongass National Forest to a camp near Eureka Falls, where you can participate in all sorts of fun activities. Your group of no more than six hikers will take a scenic boat ride to Camp Coogan Bay, where you will have the option to stop at a Historic 1920’s era float house for rain gear, boots, and snacks. The woodlands adventure then begins in earnest as you will hike through dense forest, across a small stream and on to Eureka Falls and the Camp Coogan Bay Estuary. Eureka Falls is a beautiful cascade in America’s largest national forest and the Estuary offers views of eagles, wildlife, and salmon. Feel free to gather around the crackling fire at the campsite and cook hot dogs and make s’mores over the open flame. You could also pan for gold like the prospectors in the Gold Rush that began near Sitka in 1872.
