Game of Thrones – Venture Through King's Landing

    Dubrovnik, Croacia

    Duración 4 horas

Visit several of Old Town’s most iconic sites, which gained even greater fame after serving as locations for the fictional capital King’s Landing in “Game of Thrones.”

After departing from the pier, you will soon arrive in the oldest section of Dubrovnik, a revered UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fans of the TV series “Game of Thrones,” which is based on George R. R. Martin’s “A Song of Ice and Fire” fantasy novels, will recognize this part of Dubrovnik as King’s Landing, the fictional capital of the Seven Kingdoms.

Your first stop will be imposing Lovrijenac Fortress, located just outside the medieval walls that encircle Old Town. Known as Dubrovnik’s Gibraltar, the 11th-century fortress perches atop a craggy rock overlooking the sea, which represented Blackwater Bay in the books.

Continuing on, you will enter Old Town and make your way to the defensive walls to the south. After climbing the steps, you will walk along the stone battlements, which afford extraordinary views of the sea and the inner city. These walls appeared in numerous scenes in "Game of Thrones"; they were particularly prominent in the Battle of Blackwater Bay.

Later, you will enjoy free time within Old Town, where you may explore other sites that you may recognize from the series. For instance, the Jesuit Staircase was where Cersei Lannister began her Walk of Shame in Season Five, and many of the show's market scenes were filmed along St. Dominic Street. Following free time, you will return to the pier.

    Need to Know:

Note: This tour involves approximately two hours of compulsory walking and is therefore unsuitable for passengers with limited mobility. Lots of steps will be encountered at each of the venues visited. Passengers will have approximately 60 minutes of free time, where walking is at the discretion of the individual. Order of sites may vary. We recommend that you dress in layers, wear comfortable shoes, hat, sunglasses and bring bottled water. Minimum age to participate in this tour is 8.

    Capital Of Two Empires

    Estambul, Turquía

    Duración 7 hs.

The Ottomans and Byzantines ruled this city for centuries, and testament to these great empires stand the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, opposite each other in Sultanahmet Square. You'll visit these two impressive landmarks of Istanbul as well as the Basilica Cistern and the Grand Bazaar. Start with a visit to one of the most recognized landmarks in the world, the Mosque of Sultan Ahmet, better known as the Blue Mosque because of the over 21,000 blue-green Iznik tiles used for its interior decoration.

Continue to the Hippodrome, to see the remains of what was once the scene for political struggles in the capital city of the Byzantine Empire. Visit the Hagia Sophia, a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture. It served as a church for hundreds of years during the Byzantine Empire and was converted to a Mosque when the city was conquered by the Ottomans in 1453. Here, you'll find evidence of both. Continue to the great Byzantine Basilica Cistern, located across from Hagia Sophia. You might think that having so many breathtaking sites to visit above ground leaves no need to go under. But you'll soon discover why this visit is worth every minute.

Next stop is the Grand Bazaar. You'll have a short time to experience the exotic atmosphere of the covered part. Then visit the open and modern section, where you'll enjoy local snacks and a presentation of carpets, leather or jewelry, followed by time for shopping. You'll also have free time for lunch at your own expense during the tour and you'll find many choices nearby.

    Need to Know:

Note: Expect differences in tour durations due to traffic conditions. Participants are required to remove their shoes in order to enter the Blue Mosque. As this tour visits a place of worship, please dress respectfully: no bare shoulders or exposed knees. Should the Blue Mosque be closed to visitors due to religious festivities, you’ll visit another historical mosque. On Sundays, the Grand Bazaar closes and only the shops of the outer bazaar remain open, therefore the visit to the Grand Bazaar may be replaced with the Spice Bazaar. The "Gallery" section of the Hagia Sophia is not included, but it may be visited during free time. There is approximately 1 1/2 miles of walking over uneven surfaces and some inclines and steps on this tour. This tour will be subject to national and religious festive days due to the closure of the sites and venues during the month of Ramadan, including the Festival Period of Ramadan. Tour is not offered on day one of Norwegian Jade winter sailings.

    Best Of Ephesus

    Kusadasi, Turkey

    Duración 7 hs.

Admire some of the most hallowed sites in the ancient world, including a residence believed to be the Virgin Mary’s, the ruins of Ephesus and St. John’s Basilica.

After departing from the pier, you will drive through the countryside to the House of the Virgin. Believed to be the last residence of the Virgin Mary, the small stone building contains a bedroom, kitchen and an altar adorned with images of Mary. A sacred spring known as the Fountain of Our Lady runs under the house, and you will be welcome to drink from it.

Then, it's on to revered Ephesus, a World Heritage site that may well be the best-preserved ancient city in the region. After passing the Magnesia Gate, you will behold one excavated building after another. There is the Great Theater where St. Paul preached the Gospel, the Fountain of Trajan with its regal statue of the emperor and the Library of Celsus, a monument constructed as a mausoleum with a separate library for scrolls and codexes.

Continuing on, you will stop at the ruins of St. John's Basilica. Built in the 6th century, the church stood over the spot where St. John is supposedly buried. Although a Mongol army destroyed the building and pillaged much of it, part of the basilica has been restored to show its scope.

    Castle of St. Peter

    Bodrum, Turquía

    Duración 2 1/2 hs.

Explore the Medieval beauty of the Bodrum Peninsula during this memorable visit to the Castle of St. Peter.

Few sights match those encountered along the Bodrum Peninsula. With rolling hills on both sides, and colorful yachts and sailing vessels docked right outside its walls, the seaside Castle of St. Peter is truly a sight to behold. The towers and battlements of the castle tower over the town, and serve as a reminder of its storied past.

Depart the pier for the walk to the Castle of St. Peter, and a guided tour of the Museum of Underwater Archaeology housed inside. The Castle was built in the 1400s by the Knights of St. John, a group of expatriates that began in the 11th century with a church and hospital in Jerusalem. Although the Knights observed the Catholic religion, they denied care to no one. When they decided to build the Castle of St. Peter, they instructed their builders to remove marble, stone and other usable material from the tomb of King Mausolos, or Halicarnassus Mausoleum, for use in the castle's construction.

Upon arrival at the castle, you will pass through its seven gates embellished with coats of arms and inscriptions. During your walking tour, you will visit the Museum of Underwater Archaeology. The museum attracts hundreds of thousands of annual visitors, has earned an award for Museum of the Year and appeared in National Geographic magazine. You will marvel at the exhibits of submarine archaeology, including amphora and large, copper ingots recovered from a shipwreck just offshore.

Following your castle and museum tour, you will walk back to the pier.

    Need to Know:

Note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of moderate to strenuous walking and there are stairs to negotiate at the castle. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests or those with walking difficulties. Weather appropriate clothing; sun cap; sunglasses; sunscreen; a bottle of water from the ship; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.

    Thessaloniki Highlights

    Tesalónica, Grecia

    Duración 3 1/2 hs.

Admire the city’s marquee attractions, stopping for photos at the key landmarks before visiting St. Demetrius Church and the Archaeological Museum.

After departing from the pier, you will soon enter the heart of Thessaloniki, a thriving metropolis that is the second largest city in Greece. Considering its size and the importance of Thessaloniki in the ancient world, there are plenty of fascinating attractions. The most recognizable is the White Tower, a 15th-century fortress that has become the city's symbol.

Even older are the Arch and Rotunda of Galerius, which the emperor built in the 4th century to commemorate his victory over Persia. Although many of the supporting buildings have now crumbled, these two structures have stood the test of time. Similarly, the citadel and Thessaloniki's defensive walls are reminders of its tumultuous history. The best views are from Upper or Old Town, one of the few areas that survived the great fire of 1917.

Of course, not all of the attractions are ancient. You will also pass the International Trade Fair grounds and the campus of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Still, the tug of history is irresistible, especially as you meander through St. Demetrius Church admiring the Byzantine mosaics that depict the story of the saint. More historical artifacts await you at the Archaeological Museum, which includes exhibitions on subjects such as prehistoric Macedonia and the use of gold in jewelry, coins and clothing. After browsing the museum, you will return to the pier.

    Need to Know:

Note: This tour includes approximately 2-hours of easy to moderate walking with some steps and thresholds to negotiate. The tour is not available to wheelchair guests and those with walking difficulties are cautioned to carefully evaluate their personal level of stamina and ability. Weather appropriate clothing (conservative dress is requested for entering the cathedral); sun cap; sunglasses; and flat, comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
