    Embrace the undersea beauty of Tahiti's blue waters during this scenic and memorable lagoon discovery tour.


    Depart the pier for the short ride to your snorkeling site. Depending on the weather conditions (winds and currents), you will journey to Tahiti's west coast, enjoying views of the mountains and shoreline.


    Shortly after departure, your captain will anchor in one of the most accessible sandbars, in 4 to 10-feet of water. This short dip allows to take in the nicest views from the lagoon & the mountain background and gets you into the clear waters of the island for an enjoyable swim. Masks and snorkels will be available for those who wish to discover the abundance of tropical fish living in these waters. Keep an eye out for dolphins and stingrays, which are often seen in the area.


    Swim, or soak in the warm sea, then re-board your boat and sip a refreshment before heading back to the pier.


    Need to Know:

    Note: Participants should be in good physical condition, know how to swim and be comfortable wearing snorkeling equipment, being in deep water and coping with occasional currents. Proper sun protection, a towel from the ship, and reef shoes are recommended. Those guests who participate in any water activities do so at their own risk and responsibility.     Tahiti Sail by Catamaran

    Cruise off the coast of Tahiti without a care in the world, eventually anchoring for a refreshing swim in the surrounding lagoon.


    After a short walk from the pier, you will embark a sleek, 43-foot catamaran for an exhilarating and immensely scenic cruise through the crystal-clear waters off Papeete. The catamaran is exceptionally comfortable as it features a spacious open deck and a shaded lounge for those guests who prefer to relax under cover.


    Sailing affords you a unique perspective of Tahiti’s gorgeous northern shore and Papeete’s distinct skyline. It’s easy to relax on board as the catamaran zips through the open waters, presenting ever-changing tropical views. In time, the captain will anchor the catamaran in the lagoon that almost completely surrounds Tahiti.


    Upon arriving in the lagoon, you will have the option of remaining on board and simply relaxing at your leisure or take a refreshing swim.


    During your sailing adventure you might spot playful bottlenose dolphins and endangered green sea turtles in the surrounding waters.

    Note: Tour is not recommended for guests with mobility concerns. Access to the boat is via a large stride or sometimes a narrow steep gangway. Participants who wish to swim do so at their own risk and responsibility and should be in good physical condition, be good swimmers, comfortable in the water and comfortable with occasional currents. The word “vaipahi” means “splashing water,” a reference to the garden’s gently cascading waterfalls.


    Then, it’s on to Marae Arahurahu, one of the completely restored ancient temple or marae in Polynesia. It is a sacred place which served both religious and social purposes in pre-Christian Polynesian societies. According to legend, the spirit of an ancient hero lingers here.Visit the Museum of Tahiti in the residential district of Puna’auia. This museum displays not only a number of archeological finds, but you will also be able to get an impression of the island's geology, its flora and fauna, and learn about the culture and customs in ancient and modern Tahiti.

    Head towards the East Coast, where you’ll stop at Venus Point, the historic landing site for most European discoverers and evangelists. It boasts the only lighthouse on the island which was built in 1867.


    Driving down the south of the island, you’ll pass steep coastlines until you reach the Gauguin Restaurant for some refreshments. You’ll stop to visit Spring Garden of Vaipahi where rare species of precious wood and tropical flowers can be found.


    Stop for photos at the famous Papara Surf beach, one of the nicest black sand beaches of the island where the surf is usually ideal for the best local surfers.

The word vaipahi means splashing water, a reference to the garden’s gently cascading waterfalls. While walking along the trails, you may see lotuses in bloom and 100-year-old Tahitian chestnut trees.


    Then, it’s on to Marae Arahurahu, one of the completely restored ancient temple or marae in Polynesia. Meticulously maintained, this sacred site was once used for religious rituals, royal ceremonies and celebrations after military victories. The park-like setting is dotted with elevated altars, stone tiki figures, and curious red sculptures that represent the ancestors of influential local families. According to legend, the spirit of an ancient hero lingers here.


    You will make a refreshing stop at the Maraa Grottoes. Enjoy the lush vegetation that surrounds its entrance, and as you take the short walk on the trail, you will come across the largest underwater cave in Tahiti. It is said that Paul Gauguin enjoyed the waters here, so those interested in his work will be particularly appreciative of the natural features and atmosphere that inspired his later pieces.

    Note: This tour includes approximately 2 hours of walking on flat surfaces, uneven ground with inclines and stone paths. It is available to guests who utilize a collapsible wheelchair, can make their way on and off the coach and have a companion to assist them. Those guests with mobility concerns are cautioned to evaluate their personal level of ability and stamina. Casual, weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable, flat walking shoes are suggested.
