Other unfamiliar creatures who call the park home include boobook owls, crab-eating macaques, quolls and long-nosed potoroos. Even American bison and Japanese quail are on the resident list. Like the taste of the exquisite cheeses made in the dairy country surrounding Burnie. The area’s climate, salt-laden atmosphere and lush pasturelands are simply ideal for cheese making. The exact varieties available for tasting at the visited venue change daily – but you’ll likely find sharp cheddar, creamy camembert and distinctly flavored parmesan among them. A visit to the chocolate factory of a Belgian chocolatier will stimulate a different part of your palate. Besides learning about their techniques, you’ll sample treats produced using their signature Anvers couverture chocolate, all made extra-delicious thanks to Tasmania’s extraordinary cream and butter. And what more perfect accompaniment to these delights than a tasting of locally produced wines? Depending on which boutique winery is visited this day, you may sample a deep-garnet Shiraz, a light Pinot Grigio or a fruity rosé. Turns out grapes, too, appreciate the local growing conditions.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Treat your taste buds to a delight-filled survey of the Burnie area’s top culinary indulgences.
    • Visit a local cheese producer for a sampling session of what’s on the tasting roster today.
    • Call on a local chocolatier with Belgian credentials who combines Tasmanian cream and butter with other artisanal ingredients to create…nirvana.
    • Toast your gastronomic good fortune to have found this tour by sampling the wines of a local boutique vineyard.

    Art Deco Highlights

    Napier, Nueva Zelanda

    Duración 3 hs.

    OVERVIEW

Take a drive and walk through Napier’s famously Art Deco districts and see the results of the city’s remarkable 1931 rebuild. Art Deco was all the rage in the U.S. and Europe in 1931 when a severe earthquake struck here, leveling much of the town. With an entire metropolis to rebuild, Napier embraced this whimsically streamlined architectural style and went to work. Today, the heritage sections of the city feel like a 1930s-era film set – except real. You’ll travel by coach to Ahuriri, the character-filled port district where Napier began, stopping by the landmark National Tobacco Company building for photos, and spin along the streets of Marewa, Napier’s charming Art Deco residential neighborhood. A drive down Marine Parade, lined with rows of Norfolk Pines leads to the Art Deco Shop, where you’ll learn more about Napier’s history with a brief film presentation, then set off on a leisurely guided half-mile stroll through the official Art Deco Quarter. You’ll marvel at its eclectic mix of period buildings in the Spanish Mission, Stripped Classical and, of course, streamlined Art Deco styles – and step inside the old AMP Building and ASB Bank for interior inspections.

    HIGHLIGHTS

    • Sit back for a drive through several Napier neighborhoods that showcase its unique Art Deco heritage.
    • Tour Ahuriri, the old wharf district, and stop for photos at the magnificently detailed 1932 National Tobacco Company building.
    • Leave the coach behind for a while, as you take a leisurely guided walk in the central Art Deco District.

    Langkawi Overview

    Langkawi, Malasia

    Duración 4 hs.

Discover attractions that include Langkawi’s infinite natural beauty and interesting places, as you travel from a cultural complex to a rubber plantation to a landmark plaza.

Drive across Langkawi, a ruggedly mountainous archipelago of rainforests, lakes and waterfalls. Largely undeveloped, the landscape is classically tropical. It is still very much the land of rice fields, legends and friendly people. Pass scenic paddy fields with groups of buffaloes resting in their muddy ponds. Quaint Malay Kampung (villages) are scattered all over the island.

Stop at a functioning rubber estate where you get a close-up view of rubber tapping. The rubber tapper shows you how his skillful cut makes the rubber tree bleed latex; a simple method that has been used since the late 1800s. See how the tree sap is harvested to create products such as latex gloves, tires and paint.

Stop at the Budaya Craft Cultural Complex, which celebrates Malaysia’s heritage and local talents. This craft-shopping complex offers visitors the widest range of genuine Malaysian crafts. The abundance of choice includes basketry, batik paintings, pottery, pewter products and much more. You will even have a chance to view the art of glass blowing.

Thousands of other cultural treasures await you at the Prime Minister’s Gallery. Created to house, display and share with the people, the various awards and gifts that Malaysia’s former prime minister received from various world leaders, statesmen, and prominent Malaysians. The items include cars, furniture and vases decorated with his likeness.

The word Langkawi is derived from the Malay word for Eagle. Stop for photos at Eagle Square, with a monumental sculpture embracing the seafront in Kuah before heading back to the port.

Ocho Rios & Dunn’s River Falls

    Bahía Montego, Jamaica

    Duración 7 hs.

Travelling through Jamaica's beautiful countryside, you'll drive past some historic sites and districts on the way to Dunn's River Falls. Described as a living and growing phenomenon, the waterfall continuously regenerates itself from deposits of travertine rock, the result of precipitation of calcium carbonate from the river, as it flows over the falls. The small dome-shaped cataracts are usually associated with thermal spring activity found in limestone caves. Experience the thrill of climbing the waterfall, in a human chain led by experienced Falls Guides. Pause at the 'massage parlour' and experience the soothing effects of the water as it cascades over the rocks, to the sea.

For the less adventurous, view the activities of the more intrepid from the "safe" vantage point of the terrace or deck. For those who enjoy Mother Nature’s gifts, lose yourself in the lush tropical foliage of ferns, bamboos, ginger lilies, crotons, orchids, a variety of palms and breadfruit trees. After visiting the falls, you will be treated to a delicious Jamaican buffet lunch, served in the beautiful garden setting of the Ruins Restaurant before the return drive to Montego Bay. A sample of the buffet menu which is subject to change may include jerk chicken, jerk pork, curried chicken, escoveitched fish/fish in batter, sweet & sour chicken, hot & spicy wings and various side dishes.

City Highlights & Rose Hall Great House

    Bahía Montego, Jamaica

    Duración 3 1/2 hs.

From the pier, a scenic drive takes you to Rose Hall Great House, an outstanding relic of colonial times with a fascinating and detailed history of dark rumor and intrigue. The story of Annee Palmer, the mistress of Rose Hall Great House, is not easily forgotten! It is said that Annee Palmer had three husbands during her reign as mistress of the Rose Hall Plantation and each of them died a sudden and violent death. She gained a reputation for extreme cruelty and her nickname “White Witch of Rose Hall”. Annie was feared by the slaves who lived on and worked the plantation. She ruled with an iron fist, and defiance or even perceived insolence was answered with public whippings, torture in the dungeon, or even death.

According to local legend, Annee’s restless spirit still roams the grounds, following her untimely death at the hands of a cunning slave. Accounts of her enduring presence have been featured on the TV programs “Ghost Hunters International” and World’s Scariest Places”. Departing the Great House, pause for a while at the Shoppes at Rose Hall where you’ll have an opportunity to purchase that special souvenir to remind you of your visit to Jamaica. Crafts, exquisite gems, jewelry, watches, coffee, spices, sauces, clothing and alluring perfumes are all part of the available duty-free shopping. Hato Caves & City Center

    Willemstad, Curazao

    Duración 2 3/4 hs.

Discover two highlights of Curacao, the Hato Caves and the historic city center of Willemstad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a short drive, you’ll arrive at the impressive Hato Caves. It is home to beautiful limestone formations, the famous Madonna statue and a colony of seldom seen long nose fruit bats. The variety of stalagmites and stalactites are impressive. It is fun to join the guide in recognizing animals or figures in the various stone formations. Relax on the drive back to the city, for your walking tour.

First you’ll visit the Curacao marketplace where the locals shop for food and ingredients for their home cooked meals. On the way to Fort Amsterdam, home to the Governor of Netherland Antilles, you’ll pass the beautifully colored, picture perfect merchant houses on the quay of the harbor entrance. The last part of you walk will be to cross the floating bridge that connects both sides of the city. If the bridge is open, due to ship traffic, ferries will be used instead. Your guide will escort you back to the ship, right through historic Rif Fort. This area offers upscale shopping, dining and entertainment centers and you’re able to spend time here at your leisure.
