From Alaskan history and native culture to a culinary tasting, enjoy all aspects of what makes Ketchikan unique! Begin your tour with an action-packed performance at the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show where you will celebrate a bygone era. Southeast Alaska's rich logging history comes to life with thrilling displays of strength and agility. These world champion athletes wearing spiked boots and hard hats, compete in 12 athletic events that utilize seven-pound axes, six-foot razor-sharp saws, tree climbing gaffs, and souped-up chainsaws. This will be one hour of non-stop excitement and laughs that is unique to all of Alaska. Join us in Saxman Native Village for a culinary experience to learn all about Alaskan ingredients and their uses in a modern cooking environment. The culinary tasting will offer a unique setting to enhance your culinary knowledge and expand your palate with true Alaskan ingredients. Start with an Alaskan styled charcuterie board prepared with smoked salmon, wild game meats, artisan cheeses and fruits; followed by two additional courses selected by the Chef. Sit and marvel as the Chef goes through the ingredients and demonstrates the techniques used for preparing one of the dishes. All these items pair deliciously with the local wines and beers included. The culinary demonstration is complemented by a cultural showcase of Alaska Native art, featuring a variety of priceless and historical pieces from the Cape Fox Corporation Native Art Collection. Some of these artifacts include traditional hand carved pieces by Master Carver, Nathan Jackson, along with other items coming from the original Village of Cape Fox. Your local tour host will teach the Tlingit customs, traditions, and stories of the Elders as they guide you through the exhibits.

Trace Russia's influence on Sitka in the 19th century and tour a raptor center that rescues injured birds in hopes of returning them to the wild. The Russians first gained a foothold in Alaska in 1804 by overpowering the indigenous Tlingits. That battlefield is now part of the Sitka National Historical Park, where you will browse exhibits explaining the conflict. Here you can walk the forest trail lined with totems, view cultural exhibits or talk with local native artists. This tour also presents the chance to see Alaskan wildlife up close at the Alaska Raptor Center, a rehabilitation facility for birds of prey. This Bald Eagle Center operates with bird care professionals assisted by volunteers to rescue birds, provide them with rehabilitative care and hopefully release them back into the wild. Time will be available to view the flight center, clinic window, outside deck habitat areas and gift shop.

Feel the adrenaline rush of riding in an actual hovercraft! This 75-minute trip takes you from the bustling dock to a secluded Ketchikan beach and on to hidden coves teeming with native wildlife and spectacular Alaskan scenery. Take your seat among a small group of 12 fellow thrill seekers, settling inside the covered and enclosed cabin of your unique watercraft, which is designed to have minimal impact on this pristine wilderness. The vessel will then gently drift onto a black-sand beach, and you'll have the chance to hop out and breathe in the fresh air while walking along the shore. Enjoy the serenity that can only be found in this part of the world. Then, get ready for more action as you lift off dry land and glide across the water in search of more wildlife. Your journey begins with a narrated tour of downtown Juneau and the city's highlights as you make your way to Mendenhall Valley -- home of the Mendenhall Glacier. Upon arriving at Mendenhall, your Driver-guide will point out many of the attractions that you'll want to experience during your 2 hour stay. Areas you'll want to explore include the central view from Photo Point, the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center -- includes a short film telling the story of the Juneau Ice Field, several scenic trails. The duration of the stay will allow for ample time to walk out to Nugget Creek Falls where you can stand along the shore as a large glacier fed waterfall terminates nearby. This same shore provides the closest view of Mendenhall Glacier without standing on the ice. Other area trails include Steep Creek -- where sockeye salmon can be seen spawning from mid-July through September, and the Moraine Ecology Trail. Each of these trails meanders through the Tongass National Forest, and many offer different viewpoints of the glacier in the background. Due to occasional bear activity, food consumption is prohibited in the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area.
Duración 3 1/2 hs.
Be among the select few to travel by canoe for an exceptional experience near the face of the majestic Mendenhall Glacier. You'll paddle across Mendenhall Lake, navigating past icebergs, surrounded by one of the richest samplings of Alaskan wildlife you'll find anywhere. Birds including arctic terns nest in the towering cliffs and eagles, goats, salmon and bears are all common sights. Then, venture within a safe distance of the massive, awe inspiring face of the living Mendenhall Glacier. Grab a thrill ride by skirting the base of the beautiful and powerful Nugget Falls.
Refuel with an Alaskan-style snack. You'll make your trip in a traditional easy to paddle, 15 - 20 passenger Tlingit-style canoe, an exceptionally stable 28 foot watercraft, with all modern safety gear supplied. Because of the close approach to the glacier face, the U.S. Forest Service tightly controls the number of participants.
