Durres is a wonderful combination of ancient history, architectural wonders and modern seaside attractions. Landmarks such as the Durres Ampitheatre and the Byzantine city wall (also called Durres castle) date back to the 5th Century and show off the city’s rich history. Architectural influences throughout the city feature a variety of styles and time periods, and include inspiration from ancient Greece and Rome. The more modern parts of the town offer excellent dining and shopping – don’t miss the old Byzantine Market. While Durres Beach is the most popular in the country and one of the most famous in the region.
