Explore the slopes of volcanic Hualalai to visit an endangered cloud forest. You’ll walk under a canopy of 30-foot tall tree ferns, bamboo and the flowering evergreen trees known as Ohia, and learn about the tropical flora, birds and the forest eco system.
It’s a scenic drive to Kaloko Honokohau National Historical Park, where you’ll hike to some ancient temples and see petroglyphs carved by the native Hawaiians who once lived here. Walk to the sandy shore where fisherman stored their stocks of fish in traps and ponds, and from where Hawaiian green sea turtles, the very rare Hawaiian monk seal, dolphins and whales may be seen.
Coffee is always top of mind when in Kona, and you’ll visit the award-winning Mountain Thunder coffee plantation for a tour of the mill, and of course, a taste of their special brew.
