Accessible Companion: Blue Lagoon Experience

OVERVIEW

This excursion is for guests that use a cane/walker, have limited mobility issues or for companions of those guest that have booked mobility equipment tour.

Tour includes step-free routes, shorter distances and no stairs. Accessible restrooms with wide doors for wheelchairs are present along the tour route. Vehicles are adapted with an access ramp (or lift where available) to accommodate a limited number of wheelchairs and/or mobility scooters. Guides are not allowed to push wheelchairs; therefore, guests needing special assistance must be accompanied by an able-bodied.

Soak in the heated, mineral-rich waters of the Blue Lagoon, an experience that will leave you completely relaxed and may even impart therapeutic benefits. The manmade lagoon was created decades ago in the middle of a centuries-old black lava field. A nearby power plant is the source of the lagoon’s heated water, which is completely chemical free and renews itself every 48 hours. Although the water can reach a depth of about five feet deep, most areas are far shallower, and accessibility is easy. The minerals in the waters may provide therapeutic benefits, as they are hailed for reducing pain and stiffness from arthritis. The silica in the water helps to cleanse and strengthen the skin, giving it a healthy, radiant glow. The water is also said to naturally heal skin conditions. Wheelchair-accessible changing rooms are available, and a special water wheelchair makes it easy to enter the lagoon waters.
